history
early years (1986–1988)

skid row formed in 1986 in toms river, new jersey, bassist rachel bolan , guitarist dave sabo. pair recruited guitarist scotti hill , drummer rob affuso through newspaper ads. lead vocalist sebastian bach replaced original singer matt fallon after band spotted bach singing @ rock photographer mark weiss s wedding @ age of 18, , members asked him join in 1987. band began playing shows in clubs throughout eastern united states.

sabo , john bongiovi teenage friends , sabo briefly member of bon jovi before being replaced guitarist richie sambora. sabo , bongiovi agreed if 1 of them made in music business, other out. bon jovi s manager doc mcghee sought out skid row, , secured band record deal atlantic records in 1988. skid row recorded debut @ royal recorders in lake geneva, wisconsin producer michael wagener. before releasing album, management have paid reported $35,000 guitarist gary moore rights name of namesake band.

skid row (1989–1990)

skid row, released in january 1989, instant success. record went 5× platinum on strength of top 10 singles 18 , life , remember . skid row opening act on bon jovi s 1988–1989 jersey syndicate tour, promoting new jersey album. part of six-month tour, skid row played first ever uk gig supporting bon jovi s outdoor show @ milton keynes bowl on august 19, 1989. next day, skid row played successful club show @ london s marquee club in charing cross road. skid row took part in moscow music peace festival, set keep mcghee out of jail. mcghee facing drug trafficking charges, , therefore set anti-drug/peace concert in russia, featuring few of artists , brother managed.

skid row returned uk 3 months later opening on mötley crüe s european dr. feelgood tour in november 1989 white lion. followed uk headlining tour culminating in show @ london s hammersmith odeon, vain supporting. in referred bottle incident fans of band, bach hit onstage bottle thrown crowd @ concert in springfield, massachusetts, skid row opening aerosmith on december 27, 1989. bach threw bottle back, hitting girl (not thrower), jumped on crowd beat person can seen on tour video released skid row called oh can scream in 1990.

shortly thereafter, @ show, bach put on t-shirt proclaiming anti-gay slogan aids kills fags dead . shirt given him fan, bach expressed regret on incident, claiming did not read slogan before putting shirt on. band recorded cover of sex pistols holidays in sun make difference foundation release stairway heaven/highway hell.

slave grind (1991–1992)

skid row returned studio wagener in 1990, record second studio album. slave grind released in june 1991 , debuted @ number 1 on billboard 200. album reached 2× platinum status without radio hits. skid row once again went out on worldwide tour lasted on year, including leg supporting guns n roses in 1991 , appearance @ castle donington festival in 1992.

slave grind departure band; skid row album followed typical 80 s band formula, slave grind had heavier sound, verging on speed metal title track. skid row took out pantera opening act on of tour supporting slave grind. skid row asked upcoming grunge band nirvana open them declined, saying skid row homophobic , relating sebastian bach t-shirt incident. coincidentally, nirvana s original band name skid row.

subhuman race , split bach (1992–1998)

after slave grind promotional tour, ep of covers b-side ourselves released in september 1992. before third album recorded, skid row took extended hiatus in 1993 on mcghee s recommendation wait grunge movement fade away. time, skid row parted ways wagener, possibly due music taking different direction follow-up slave grind. in 1994, band returned studio producer bob rock record third album. subhuman race released in march 1995, , charted in top 40 on american charts. although did not achieve success of predecessors, charted 1 single in , received positive reviews.

at point, band shifted performing @ smaller venues , videos played on mtv, partly because of rise in popularity of grunge , subsequent decline of many 1980s heavy metal styles. skid row opening act van halen on north american leg of tour. eventually, bach left band in late 1996 after argument bolan turned down opening slot on kiss reunion tour though bach booked it. other band members told bach skid row big opening act , not going show. bach left message on bandmate s answering machine telling them band never big open kiss.

bolan had side project, punk band prunella scales playing @ same time planned kiss show. rift between bach , other band members subsequently led him leaving skid row. 4 years later, skid row 1 of opening acts 2000 kiss farewell tour. in 1998 skid row released compilation 40 seasons: best of skid row. after bach s departure, remaining members continued ozone monday singer shawn mccabe of mars needs women. in 1998 , 1999, group opened kiss , mötley crüe under new moniker.

new lineup , thickskin (1999–2005)

skid row re-formed in 1999 new lead vocalist johnny solinger , drummer phil varone. after re-forming, band opened kiss on farewell tour, , played other 1980s metal bands such poison , mötley crüe s singer vince neil. in 2002 part of rock never stops tour. skid row released fourth full-length studio album thickskin in 2003, first album feature solinger , first studio album in 8 years. in 2004, dave gara announced new drummer.

revolutions per minute (2006–2012)

the fifth skid row album revolutions per minute released in october 2006 spv records. wagener reunited skid row , became album s producer. in 2007, band recorded jingle bells monster ballads christmas album. in 2010 rob hammersmith became band s new drummer.

speaking in 2009 next skid row album, hill said haven t sat down , recorded yet, have sat down , worked out ideas , played them on handheld recorder. s writing , re getting mind set. once wheels in motion ll fly out atlanta spend week or 2 there come home, go there again, re living in different cities, can make difficult @ times.

united world rebellion (2013–present)

in february 2013 skid row signed megaforce records, , stated new material released 3 separate ep s. first chapter united world rebellion: chapter one, released in april, 2 more eps set follow in following 12 18 months.

in february 2014, band began working on second ep. in august, skid row released second chapter of trilogy titled rise of damnation army. in april 2015, solinger fired band. later day announced tony harnell, formerly of norwegian melodic metal band tnt, replace solinger. same month band released re-recorded version of single 18 , life free download. in february, 2 months before solinger s departure, skid row announced writing third chapter of united world rebellion series. harnell left band in december, , former dragonforce vocalist zp theart filling in lead singer concerts in 2016. in january 2017, zp theart named official member of band.
