attraction experience

as ride built on omnimover system, there no triggered ride events. rather, narration plays show scenes , music run on loop. script, penned ray bradbury, has since been updated meet contemporary technological trends. current host judi dench, narrates along orchestral score bruce broughton.

show scenes

audio-animatronic cavemen in first scene of ride. scene has since been updated new figures , animated background.

the ride begins time-machine vehicles ascending dark tunnel twinkling stars around. adventurous orchestral theme starts play. score shifts theme ostinato, leitmotif comes represent digital interference, guests have picture taken which, unknown riders, used later in ride , in post-show.

as vehicle arrives @ first story of structure, begins slow curve. large film screen stretched along inside of sphere, depicting humans fighting survival without form of communication , language. screen dims behind them, guests enter cavern populated audio animatronic humans, represent development of language through cave paintings. drawings on walls come life , begin dance car continues onward.

the score modulates, presenting theme in phrygian mode, implying middle eastern atmosphere. guests brought through heated diorama of egyptians, invented system of portable communication using hieroglyphs recorded on papyrus, opposed cave paintings unable transported humans migrated.

phoenician merchants seen carrying goods faraway lands. narration explains how each civilization trying communicate, cannot understand each other due language barrier. phoenicians, trade of them create simple common alphabet, trade , communication becomes easier. turning corner, riders see lesson in mathematics being taught in piazza in ancient greek city, in sequence attempts show how math helped invent birth of high tech life enjoy today. shifting ancient rome, night scene including traveler in chariot delivering news depicts how language portrayed tool cultural unification vast network of roads stretched across europe, leading rome.

suddenly, scene takes dark turn crashes heard , smell of burnt wood fills air. fall of rome invading mercenary armies brought destruction of bulk of world s recorded knowledge, including loss of scrolls @ library of alexandria. narration gives hope vehicle reaches next level, jewish , islamic scholars of middle ages seen preserving recorded information, , continuing progress in science.

the time machines transition post-civil war north. guests witness syndicated news reports illuminating planet of current events amazing efficiency. loud, industrial-sized printing presses show incredible influence of machine advancement in mass communication. guests pass clanging sounds of press, score s theme presented again, time uptempo ragtime piano. seen next romanticized version of 20th century communications revolution—after passing telegraphs, radio, telephones, , movies, riders see 1969 television broadcast of apollo 11 landing on moon, featuring walter cronkite. language had progressed such extent no longer spoken solely humans, machines well.

guests turn corner , find in large mainframe computer ascend final hill. @ top, slow descent starts, progressing through garage in california, man seen building 1 of first home computers. score becomes percussive , dramatic guests fly through tunnel computer code projected onto walls. @ crescendo, car makes final turn cupola of spaceship earth. top of structure is, in fact, planetarium studded stars , large projection of rotating earth. before omnimover vehicles start move down long descent unloading area, rotate 180 degrees clockwise , guests ride end of attraction backwards.

the remainder of ride moves past seemingly infinite number of stars , realm of glowing triangles. guests can use touch-screens in omnimover vehicle fill out questionnaire create possible depiction of future, uses pictures taken @ beginning of ride.

earth station

the original post show spaceship earth called earth station. lasted 1982 until 1994. wide open exhibit space included:

epcot center guest relations
seven large rear projector screens mounted on walls of exhibit space toward ceiling displayed visual previews of various epcot center attractions.
worldkey information: interactive kiosks offered previews of various epcot center attractions. guests talk live cast member via two-way closed-circuit video, or make restaurant reservation while in park.

global neighborhood

when at&t renewed sponsorship in 1994, redesigned exhibit space earth station global neighborhood. original global neighborhood lasted 1994 until 1999. in 1999, exhibit space updated become new global neighborhood millennium celebration. exhibit space closed in 2004 after at&t left sponsor.

project tomorrow: inventing wonders of future

at&t s departure sponsor in 2004 caused exhibit close. siemens ag, new sponsor of spaceship earth, having signed on in 2005, created new exhibit space called project tomorrow: inventing wonders of future. new exhibit space once again uses entire exhibit space earth station had once used. new exhibit space houses interactive exhibits featuring various siemens ag technology. these interactive displays , games allow guests see future of medicine, transportation , energy management. space opened 2 games, 2 new games added in december 2007 , january 2008.

project tomorrow current attractions are:

an illuminated globe shows hometown of spaceship earth visitors day.
body builder – 3-d game challenges guests reconstruct human body. features voice of wallace shawn dr. bones.
super driver – driving simulation video game featuring vehicle accident , avoidance systems. simulates supposed future of driving. drive smart-car , try stop city being destroyed.
power city – large, digital shuffleboard-style game has guest racing around board power city.
innervision – coordination , reaction-time game elements similar simon , dance dance revolution

vip lounge

a vip lounge, operated pavilion sponsor, exists above post-show area of spaceship earth. employees of current sponsoring company , guests can relax in lounge while visiting epcot. sponsor can hold receptions in space conduct workshops , business presentations. when spaceship earth without sponsorship 2004–2005, room utilized private events such weddings , conventions. layout small , curved in shape, 1 wall consisting of large windows visitors can out onto park.

when siemens ag took on sponsor, lounge given name base21. in 2012, name dropped , known siemens vip center.
