sustainability
the university of nevada, las vegas has created urban sustainability initiative strives implement sustainable practices on campus , in larger las vegas community. in addition having 2 campus buildings in process of leed silver certification , 1 building in process of leed gold certification, unlv has reduced use of electricity , natural gas 38 percent per square foot since 2001 retrofitting older campus buildings. in 2009 edition of sustainable endowment institute’s college sustainability report card, university of nevada-las vegas received grade of c .
the science , engineering building received leed silver rating in march 2009. seb achieved rating using recycled glass, steel, concrete, , wood. more 60% of leftover construction materials recycled. roof of seb made reflect 92 percent of sunlight. reduces amount of heat absorbed building , therefore, reduces energy needed cool building. incoming air seb pre-cooled through evaporation need air conditioning reduced. high performance window glazing allows light come in while keeping building insulated. occupancy sensors allow lights automatically turn off when room not occupied, saving electricity. low-flow sinks, toilets, , showers, drip irrigation system native desert landscape reduces water usage 42%. seb uses reclaimed water system captures wastewater, providing 750 gallons of water day used flush toilets.

in 2009, unlv received cashman government award campus sustainability measures. unlv earned award maintaining consistent energy costs despite substantial campus growth, saving $11 million 2001-2009. unlv recognized managing xeric demonstration garden , recycling efforts.
residence halls
there 4 different residence hall complexes on campus: dayton complex, tonopah complex, south residential complex (sou), upper class complex (ucc).
libraries
unlv has several libraries (university libraries) on main campus. biggest library on campus lied library in center of campus. opened in 2001, 301,000-square-foot (28,000 m), $58 million facility named real estate entrepreneur ernst w. lied.

athletic facilities
unlv s main athletic facilities include sam boyd stadium, thomas & mack center(1983), cox pavilion, buchanan natatorium , earl wilson stadium. these facilities hold home games unlv sports programs , have hosted events such mountain west conference basketball tournament , national finals rodeo.
in 2007, 188,000 sq ft (17,500 m) recreation center completed. recreation center caters needs of unlv students physical , mental health.
most recently, mendenhall center, training center dedicated unlv basketball program, opened in 2012.

performing arts facilities include judy bayley theatre (1972), artemus w. ham concert hall (1976), black box theatre, alta ham fine arts complex (1982), , lee , thomas beam music center (2001).
in 1997 paul b. sogg architecture building opened.
in 2007, new 135,000 sq ft (12,500 m) student union opened. building offers many amenities students including social atmosphere, diverse food court, conference rooms, game room, student government offices, , student organization offices.
one of newer buildings on campus, greenspun hall, opened doors in 2008. home greenspun college of urban affairs , brookings mountain west institute, five-story, 120,000 square foot building home state-of-the art media facilities. houses campus radio station kunv-fm, student-run hd2 radio station, , television station, unlv-tv. certified under leadership in energy , environmental design (leed) rating system, building named after las vegas sun founder , publisher, hank greenspun. greenspun family donated $37 million total cost of building.
in 2008, sciences , engineering building opened. building created serve both college of sciences , howard r. hughes college of engineering in environmentally friendly manner.
