the hall can stage theatrical productions. 22–30 december 2011 hosted 15 performances of bristol old vic production of coram boy while old vic closed refurbishment.

colston hall has been popular venue many rock , pop music acts since 1960s. beatles first performed @ hall on 15th march 1963 part of package tour chris montez , tommy roe. group returned there play last gig of british tour on 10 november 1964, 4 fans managed sneak backstage , tip flour on heads. jimi hendrix played twice @ hall during 1967.


from late 1960s onwards, colston hall became 1 of major rock music venues in country. rolling stones, david bowie, elton john, queen , thin lizzy, roxy music, bob marley , lou reed performed there. first played colston hall on 10 november 1968, part-way through recording tommy, support free, , returned on 7 march 1970. led zeppelin played @ colston hall in june 1969, part-way through recording led zeppelin ii. pink floyd gave 1 of first live performances of dark side of moon @ colston hall on 5 february 1972, on year before album released.


queen twice headlined colston hall , firstly on tuesday 12th november 1974 part of sheer heart. attack tour , returning on 18th november 1975 part of night @ opera tour.


comedy

in addition rock , pop artists, hall regularly hosts comedians (including multiple-date sell-out runs billy connolly , bristol-born stephen merchant). annual silent comedy festival takes place @ colston hall.


wrestling

colston hall popular wrestling matches 1951. end of decade, demand matches strong seats block booked 1 day next. harold sakata made several wrestling appearances there before moving acting in 1960s. last match held in 2004; though official reason not given, locals believe no longer appropriate image colston hall.
