there several large industrial zones in cramlington, town s north-west near sewage treatment plant, housing major pharmaceutical companies including merck sharp , dohme. other growing chemical companies including aesica pharmaceuticals present. officers club menswear firm (now owned blue inc), had headquarters , supply warehouse in cramlington, in part of old wilkinson blade factory while other companies such ge oil & gas occupy large sites. start football headquartered in town.


wilkinson sword established first factory in town in 1964. american air filter company later built premises. brentford nylons opened large site in town in 1968.


boots, pharmaceuticals manufacturer, opened plant in cramlington in 1983.

the manor walks shopping centre constructed in centre of town in 1970s, , subsequently expanded in mid-1990s , in 2003/4. centre includes retailers such argos, asda, boots, next , sainsbury s. in 2011, plans put forward revamp main center , build new cinema. scheme includes improved retail facilities, restaurants , cafes , more car parking spaces.


manor walks extended southern car park in 2012 / 2013 , new vue cinema , 2 new restaurants opened in july 2013. coincided re-opening of prominent pub in town (previously traveller s rest named john clerk of cramlington). hoped these developments boost town s leisure , visitor economies.


the brockwell centre, built in 1990 towards north of town, consists of small range of shops , food outlets, alongside public house, care home , medical centre. supermarket, built netto, subsequently owned somerfield , co-operative group, presently occupied home bargains.


healthcare

northumbria healthcare nhs foundation trust opened first hospital in england purpose-built emergency care in town in june 2015. northumbria specialist emergency care hospital cost £75 million. has emergency care consultants on duty @ times, , range of specialists available 7 days week.
