as many british churches, there evidence of alteration made building on centuries south porch of church built in 1539, , war memorial chapel installed in 1920. today, building takes form of double-aisled church west tower , 2 separate chapels either side of chancel @ eastern end. there attached churchyard, closed burials around 1860.
in southeast corner, st stephen s chapel , vestry earliest parts extant, exterior walls of rough flint , rubble, , separate, steeply pitched, red tiled roof ostensibly victorian chimney. during extensive repairs , changes interior of church undertaken in 1840–1841, old foundations met with, , noted many stones had remains of ancient mouldings , suggesting part of church constructed on site of, , using material from, earlier construction.
interior , exterior evidence indicates roof of chapel once lean-to. interior fitments include unornamented piscina , wooden triptych (c. 1549) believed work of flemish artist jan sanders van hemessen presented church vicar dr james millard in 1870s.
