following out-of-court settlement, opposition parties in scottish parliament called public inquiry held mckie case. in march 2006, shirley mckie s father, iain, , dr jim swire, father of lockerbie bombing victim flora, met launch campaign judicial inquiry hoped investigate recent revelations of link between mckie case , pan flight 103 bombing trial. after meeting, dr swire said:
reputation of our country , criminal justice system depend upon how these cases sorted out.
however, scottish executive ruled out question of judicial inquiry (which has power compel attendance of witnesses) whilst shirley mckie , family announced campaign public inquiry end on 9 january 2007 – ten years after marion ross murder investigation began:
have given ten years of our lives , not giving more. politicians job it, said father, iain mckie. not our role fight justice: role. in march 2008 announced public inquiry held.
in october 2008 public inquiry case opened in glasgow, led former northern ireland judge sir anthony campbell. procedural hearing scheduled 21 november 2008 , proceedings started in june 2009.
inquiry proceedings
sir anthony campbell opened inquiry proceedings @ 10.30 on tuesday 2 june 2009 in maryhill community central hall, glasgow. following sir anthony s introductory statement, senior counsel inquiry gerry moynihan qc made public presentation of material has been collected. thereafter, lawyers core participants expected make opening statements. hearing of oral evidence scheduled commence @ 10.15 on tuesday 9 june.
