corcoran played active part in rebellion , led party of rebels @ battle of new ross. following collapse of rebellion, , group of survivors established base in killaughrim woods, north county wexford launched raids in area , county carlow. in august 1801, upsurge in corcoran s activities saw him , men being declared dangerous in case of invasion dublin castle , consequently, force of 200 soldiers sent find , destroy group. however, met little success populace shielded them military.


corcoran s men distinguished willingness allow deserters military in ranks , actively sought subvert soldiers billeted among populace or @ least rob them of arms. fearlessness demonstrated in incident near mount leinster in june 1802 when turned attack number of pursuing newtownbarry yeomen defeated , under pursuit themselves.
