also in 2005, jones invited take part in boyfriend , collaborator lee cantelon s music version of book words, book of words of christ, set simple chapters , themes. cantelon s idea have various artists recite text on primal rock music, jones elected try had never been done, improvise own impression of texts, melody , lyric, in stream of consciousness sessions, rather read jesus words. sessions recorded @ artist s loft on exposition boulevard in culver city. when cantelon no longer finish project, jones picked own record , hired rob schnaf finish production @ sunset sound in 2007, , result sermon on exposition boulevard, released on independent new west records in february 2007. included circle in sand , recorded soundtrack film friends money (2006), jones cut hillbilly song . sermon on exposition boulevard debuted @ no. 158 on billboard 200 , no. 12 on top independent albums tally. writer ann powers included on list of grammy-worthy cds 2007.


for next project, jones opted finish half-written songs dating far 1986 ( wild girl ) include new ones (the 2008-penned gospel of carlos, norman , smith , bonfires ). working closely long-time collaborator david kalish, whom jones first worked on 1981 s pirates, jones released balm in gilead on fantasy label in november 2009. album included new recording of moon made of gold , song written father richard loris jones in 1954. ben harper, victoria williams, jon brion, alison krauss , late vic chesnutt made contributions album.


in may 2010 jones performed @ sydney opera house part of vivid live festival.


on september 18, 2012, jones released devil know on concorde records. devil know includes collection of covers produced ben harper, including solo version of sympathy devil .


in 2015 jones released album other side of desire, , single jimmy choos references shoe brand. documentary film, rickie lee jones: other side of desire, on making of album, released.
