Structure Psoas major muscle

1 structure

1.1 innervation
1.2 variation
1.3 in animals

structure

the psoas major divided superficial , deep part. deep part originates transverse processes of lumbar vertebrae i-v. superficial part originates lateral surfaces of last thoracic vertebra, lumbar vertebrae i-iv, , neighboring intervertebral discs. lumbar plexus lies between 2 layers.

the iliacus , psoas major form iliopsoas, surrounded iliac fascia. iliopsoas runs across iliopubic eminence through muscular lacuna insertion on lesser trochanter of femur. iliopectineal bursa separates tendon of iliopsoas muscle external surface of hip joint capsule @ level of iliopubic eminence. iliac subtendinous bursa lies between lesser trochanter , attachment of iliopsoas.

innervation

innervation of psoas major through anterior rami of l1 l3 nerves.

variation

in less 50 percent of human subjects, psoas major accompanied psoas minor.

in animals

in mice, fast-twitching, type ii muscle, while in human combines slow , fast-twitching fibers.
