after raising ship, south korea , united states formed joint investigative team discover cause of sinking. later south korea announced intended form international group investigate sinking including canada, britain, sweden , australia.
on 16 april 2010, yoon duk-yong, co-chairman of investigation team, said in initial examination of cheonan s stern, south korean , u.s. investigators found no traces showing hull had been hit directly torpedo. instead, ve found traces proving powerful explosion caused possibly torpedo had occurred underwater. explosion might have created bubble jet generated enormous shock wave , caused ship break in two. traces of explosive chemical substance used in torpedoes, rdx, later found in may 2010.
