black plays 3...nf6 3...bf5 considered easier equalizer. also, 3...nf6 4.nc3 (same 3.nc3 nf6 4.e3 below) may give black move-order issues wanting play pure slav , not semi-slav or ...a6 slav.
exchange slav: 3.cxd5
the exchange variation once described system takes fun out of playing slav black. after 3.cxd5 cxd5, symmetrical position offers white advantage of move, drawish position offers black little chance win unless white overly ambitious. rooks exchanged down open c-file. avoid possibility black chooses move order 2...e6 followed 3...c6 enter semi-slav.
