aimwell began career @ houghton meeting @ newmarket in late october or november 1784. won 150 guinea race, beating mr panton s colt archer on 6 furlong 2 year old course. archer 8/11 favourite , other runner.
1785: three-year-old season
in spring 1785, aimwell won 100 guineas defeating archer again on same course , distance. on occasion aimwell carried 7 pounds more opponent , started 2/5 favourite. @ same newmarket meeting, finished third in prince s stakes, race won mr fox s balloon, defeated lord grosvenor s grantham in run-off after dead heat. @ epsom on 5 may, aimwell started @ odds of 7/1 derby in field of ten runners, grantham , balloon joint favourites on 2/1. ridden c. hindley won race grantham, balloon unplaced.
after five-month break, aimwell returned 3 races @ newmarket in autumn. @ first october meeting won match race on 4 mile beacon course, winning 300 guinea prize beating mr vernon s horse mousetrap. aimwell beaten in 200 guinea sweepstakes @ second october meeting, in finished second of 4 runners guyler. @ houghton meeting 2 weeks later conceded 35 pounds sir charles bunbury s blacklock , won match on ten furlongs across flat claim prize of 100 guineas.
1786: four-year-old season
aimwell stayed in training @ age of 4 years, ran once. @ second spring meeting @ newmarket beaten in two-mile match in attempted concede 6 pounds balloon.
