on 15 december 2014, hostage crisis in lindt café in martin place, sydney ended 3 deaths, including suspect man haron monis. there doubt whether or not monis fit definition of lone wolf terrorist. queensland university of technology criminologist associate professor mark lauchs said important siege wasn t elevated terrorist attack such. associate professor lauchs said monis deranged person running hostage situation: incident not religion , neither terrorist attack, given perception paraphernalia monis used. australian prime minister tony abbott said, [man haron monis] had long history of violent crime, infatuation extremism , mental instability. siege unfolded yesterday, sought cloak actions symbolism of isil death cult. former counter-terrorism adviser white house richard clarke said, don t think lone wolf terrorist, don t think terrorist @ all, think committing suicide police lot of people mental problems do, , now, if re terrorist, if re somehow associated isis or al qaeda, becomes major event shuts down city , gets international attention. person mental problem tried gain attention , succeeded, tried shut down city , succeeded, merely putting flag flag of isis.
