Emancipation Ursari

speaking during late 1880s, historian , politician mihail kogălniceanu, responsible 1855 abolition of slavery in moldavia under prince grigore alexandru ghica, claimed that: aside [other] lăieşi gypsies, still live in part in gypsy camps, , ursari, presently working in taming of wild beasts, nevertheless involved in working land, of other classes of gypsies have blended larger mass of nation, , told apart swarthy , asian-like faces , vividness of imagination .
following creation of romanian principality, ursari nonetheless remained presence associated busking , fairs, held in bucharest , provincial cities such bacău. rule of domnitor alexandru ioan cuza, formed staple of such spectacles, alongside music-playing lăutari, căluşari, , freak shows. @ around same time, included section of zavragii, smiths worked day laborers. during late 19th century, ursari came attested in imperial russian-ruled bessarabia, local population referred them , lăieşi in general şătraşi ( people living on campsites ).
sometime after 1850, groups of ursari, kalderash , lovari, coming austro-hungarian regions , bosnia, moved westwards, , mentioned first time present in north brabant , other areas in netherlands (where descendants still live). similar move originated in serbia, around kragujevac, boyash , ursari moving northern , central italy. in netherlands, central authorities reacted vehemently presence of roma, labeling ursari , others loaded term gypsies ; reaction of local authorities more calm, , allowed ursari blend dutch society, though members of latter community intended settle in other areas.
