the first ever lecture delivered on september 26, 1906 (documentally confirmed). course @ time called hmcw (higher medical course women). course listeners called “medichki”. first “medichki” graduation in spring 1912.


due popularity of course, entrance competition high. in 1906, medical faculty students numbered 206, in 1907-1908 number 285. therewith, 2128 applicants study rejected. so, entrance competition equaled 9 people 1 position.


since establishment of hmcw medical department february revolution of 1917, total of 1060 students trained there.


the revolutionary events of 1917 gave incentive new wave in history of hmcw. “interim government herald” (vestnik vremennogo pravitelstva) informed legislation of draft transformation of women courses women universities. no practical implementation of legislation followed. on top of that, study years 1917-1918 started off huge complications , in november studies dismissed. on october 16, 1918 people’s commisariat board decreed transform hmcw 2nd moscow state university (2nd msu), becoming new educational establishment of mixed character without considering former separate educational establishment.


2nd msu existed 1930. later on, result of reorganization 3 independent institutes came existence including 2nd moscow state medical institute (2nd msmi). period of progressive development started , lasted till world war. includes formation of new departments , faculties. each department had scientific student society of own. during days of war, when state examinations on after spring, practically graduates sent red army forces. throughout years of war, institute operated usual , kept on training specialists. on november 23, 1946 on account of 40 years of foundation, ussr presidium of supreme soviet decree decided honour institute name of i.v. stalin. year onwards 1957, institute officially called “2nd msmi named after i.v. stalin”.


and on may 30, 1957 dedication 50th year of foundation, rsfsr presidium of supreme soviet decree honoured 2nd msmi name of russian surgeon , anatomist n.i. pirogov. in 1966, on 60th anniversary, institute awarded order of lenin , acquired new name 2nd molsmi named after n.i. pirogov.


on november 5, 1991 according regulation of rsfsr council of ministers, name transformed russian state medical university(rsmu). present day name of institute acquired on 20 june 2011 when university awarded national research status , renamed russian national research medical university named after n.i. pirogov.
