in 1847, morris s father died unexpectedly. point, family relied upon continued income copper mines @ devon great consols, , sold woodford hall move smaller water house. in february 1848 morris began studies @ marlborough college in marlborough, wiltshire, gained reputation eccentric nicknamed crab . despised time there, being bullied, bored, , homesick. did use opportunity visit many of prehistoric sites of wiltshire, such avebury , silbury hill, fascinated him. school anglican in faith , in march 1849 morris confirmed bishop of salisbury in college chapel, developing enthusiastic attraction towards anglo-catholic movement , romanticist aesthetic. @ christmas 1851, morris removed school , returned water house, privately tutored reverend frederick b. guy, assistant master @ nearby forest school.
