lifehouse announced in august 2008 starting on fifth album. band entered studio on november 12, 2008 begin working on project. stated in interview @ espn magazine s next party during super bowl xliii album should released in late 2009.


on april 11, 2009, band announced ben carey official member of band. said had been four-piece time , ben family . carey had been touring band since 2004.


lifehouse revealed during 2009 tour album include band s released single are. announced on october 15 new album called smoke & mirrors , released on december 8, 2009. however, on november 13, 2009, band stated on web page delayed until february 2, 2010. first single, halfway gone , released on october 27, 2009. music video premiered on vh1 top 20 on vh1.com @ end of november. album released in standard, deluxe, , two-disc deluxe edition. on december 22, reported album had been pushed once again, time february 23, 2010. album released on march 2, 2010.


the album debuted @ no. 6 on billboard 200 54,203 sold. marked highest chart debut of ten-year career, beating out first week chart position 2002 sophomore set stanley climbfall, debuted @ no. 7.
