early years

wisniewski started junior hockey career plymouth whalers of ontario hockey league (ohl) in 2000. improved every year significantly, , drafted in fifth round, 156th overall, chicago blackhawks in 2002. @ start of 2003–04 season, named captain of whalers. year, scored 17 goals, 11 on power-play. finished 24th in overall scoring 70 points, third amongst defensemen , 6 points short of ohl lead, set kingston frontenacs defenseman bryan rodney. efforts, wisniewski awarded ohl s 2004 max kaminsky trophy outstanding defenseman. took home ohl s parent league, canadian hockey league (chl) s, defenseman of year award. recognition gained wisniewski contract chicago, , jump american hockey league (ahl) s norfolk admirals, blackhawks top minor league affiliate.


wisniewski called blackhawks in 2006–07 season , stuck team. however, tore anterior cruciate ligament (acl) during first period in game against los angeles kings on march 5, 2007, , placed on injured reserve, missing rest of season.

on march 4, 2009, wisniewski traded blackhawks, along finnish forward petri kontiola, anaheim ducks in exchange samuel påhlsson , logan stephenson.


in 2009–10 season, wisniewski entrenched himself in ducks defense corps , scored career-high 30 points in 69 games. on march 17, 2010, in game against former team, blackhawks, wisniewski delivered retaliation hit brent seabrook, former teammate , friend, driving head against glass. wisniewski received eight-game suspension hit; last player receive suspension of length former duck chris pronger.

on december 28, 2010, wisniewski traded montreal canadiens second-round pick in 2011 draft , conditional fifth round pick in 2012. scored 7 goals go 23 assists in 43 games canadiens, 2 assists in 6 playoff games.

on june 29, 2011, wisniewski s rights traded columbus blue jackets in exchange conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2012; pick become fifth-rounder if columbus signed him. subsequently signed six-year, $33 million contract blue jackets on july 1, 2011.


on september 26, 2011, wisniewski suspended remainder of pre-season , 8 regular season games nhl hit head of minnesota wild forward cal clutterbuck on september 23 after end of regulation. in injury-shortened 2011–12 season, wisniewski appeared in 48 games columbus, scoring 6 goals along 21 assists blue jackets finished out of playoff hunt.


wisniewski again suffer season plagued injuries in lockout-shortened 2012–13 season, producing 14 points in 30 games blue jackets. however, in 2013–14, scored 7 goals , career-high 51 point in 75 games, tied st. louis blues alex pietrangelo ninth in points among nhl defensemen, helping blue jackets clinch first playoff berth since 2009.

on march 2, 2015, wisniewski traded blue jackets anaheim ducks, along 2015 third-round pick, in exchange rene bourque, william karlsson , 2015 second-round pick, marking beginning of second term ducks.

on june 27, 2015, second day of 2015 nhl entry draft, wisniewski traded carolina hurricanes in exchange anton khudobin. in 2015–16 season, in first game hurricanes on opening night, wisniewski suffered tear left acl after playing in 47 seconds, ended season. wisniewski s brief shift hurricanes last, in off-season , nearing return full health, bought out final year of contract on june 30, 2016.


on august 10, 2016, lightning signed wisniewski professional tryout agreement. on october 2, 2016, part of lightning s roster reduction, lightning announced had released wisniewski tryout agreement.

he signed admiral vladivostok of kontinental hockey league (khl) 2016–17 season , parted ways club in december 2016 after 16 games. headed switzerland join hc lugano spengler cup. helped club spengler cup final , named tournament s all-star team.


on january 26, 2017, wisniewski signed contract 25-game professional tryout chicago wolves of ahl, affiliate st. louis blues, before moving europe, signing german del2 side kassel huskies on october 11, 2017.
