the rifle developed between 1975–1977 nato standardization trials. rifle’s design based on fnc 76 prototype, originated commercially unsuccessful fn cal rifle. prototype withdrawn nato competition after performing poorly due rushed development. later trials swedish armed forces held between 1981–1982 using updated prototypes proved utility , efficiency of design, impressing both swedish military , belgian army staff @ home. fnc adopted belgian armed forces in 1989, service-wide replacement 7.62×51mm nato fn fal, after having been issued in small numbers airborne infantry units several years.
