garden grove founded alonzo cook in 1874. school district , methodist church organized year. remained small rural crossroads until arrival of railroad in 1905. rail connection helped town prosper crops of orange, walnuts, chili peppers , later strawberries.


20th century

in 1933, of town s central business district destroyed long beach earthquake, , 1 person killed @ high school. post-world war ii boom led rapid development, , garden grove incorporated city in 1956 44,000 residents.
