the basic alarm consists of 1 or more sensors detect intruders, , alerting device indicate intrusion. however, typical premises security alarm employs following components:
premises control unit (pcu), alarm control panel (acp), or panel: brain of system, reads sensor inputs, tracks arm/disarm status, , signals intrusions. in modern systems, typically 1 or more computer circuit boards inside metal enclosure, along power supply.
sensors: devices detect intrusions. sensors may placed @ perimeter of protected area, within it, or both. sensors can detect intruders variety of methods, such monitoring doors , windows opening, or monitoring unoccupied interiors motions, sound, vibration, or other disturbances.

keypads: small devices, typically wall-mounted, function human-machine interface system. in addition buttons, keypads typically feature indicator lights, small multi-character display, or both.
interconnections between components. may consist of direct wiring control unit, or wireless links local power supplies.
security devices: devices detect unauthorized entry or movements such spotlights, cameras & lasers.
in addition system itself, security alarms coupled monitoring service. in event of alarm, premises control unit contacts central monitoring station. operators @ station see signal , take appropriate action, such contacting property owners, notifying police, or dispatching private security forces. such signals may transmitted via dedicated alarm circuits, telephone lines, or internet.
