these systems have not been deciphered. in cases, such meroitic, sound values of glyphs known, texts still cannot read because language not understood. several of these systems, such epi-olmec , indus, claimed have been deciphered, these claims have not been confirmed independent researchers. in many cases doubtful writing. vinĨa symbols appear proto-writing, , quipu may have recorded numerical information. there doubts indus writing, , phaistos disc has little content or context nature undetermined.

phaistos disc (a unique text, possibly not writing)
proto-elamite – elam (nearly old sumerian)
rongorongo – rapa nui (perhaps syllabary)
proto-sinaitic (likely abjad)
zapotec – zapotec (another old mesoamerican script)
banpo symbols  – yangshao culture (perhaps proto-writing)
jiahu symbols  – peiligang culture (perhaps proto-writing)
