may 3 (italy)

a small tornado outbreak struck italy day. first tornado struck castelfranco emilia (modena), causing severe damage strong f2 or low f3, , travelling 18 km. same supercell spawned wedge tornado struck argelato (bologna), causing f3 damage on 20 km path , injuring people. near mirandola (which damaged earthquakes in previous year, in same period) strong f2 tornado damaged buildings , injured 1 person. in total 3 tornadoes recorded, 13 people injured, 119 people made homeless , hail (up 8 cm) caused severe damage buildings , agriculture.

may 15–17


a home swept clean off foundation after ef4 tornado struck granbury, texas.

during evening of may 15, 18 tornadoes touched down on texas, including 1 tornado in granbury rated ef4. extreme damage took place in granbury many homes leveled. 6 people killed in town while 8 others injured. deaths took place in small sub-division of rancho brazo on outskirts of granbury. surveys revealed ef3 damage in cleburne, caused large wedge tornado touched down in area. weaker tornado struck town of millsap, destroying barn , damaging several homes.

over next 2 days, system weakened continued produce few tornadoes across south. on may 16, 4 ef1 tornadoes touched down near texas/louisiana state line (with 2 tornadoes in tx; 2 in la). several buildings , few houses damaged , 1 person injured. on may 17, system pushed eastward , 2 brief ef0 tornadoes touched down in limestone county, alabama, several houses being damaged.

may 18–21


a home largely destroyed ef4 tornado touched down near rozel, kansas on may 18

during evening of may 18, tornadoes touched down in parts of kansas , nebraska. however, remained in open country little damage. large ef4 tornado near rozel, kansas damaged 5 farms , largely destroyed 1 home.

on may 19, slow-moving system produced severe weather event east of previous day. multiple tornadoes, brief, reported in kansas once again. ef2 tornado touched down near southwest wichita, damaging several homes , many trees. further south, 2 long-tracked wedge tornadoes moved in 2 corridors luther tryon , norman mcloud in oklahoma. damage in both swaths severe extreme, many houses destroyed. second of these intense tornadoes, ef4, struck mobile home park near shawnee in pottawatomie county, damaging or destroying 30–35 homes. 2 people killed , 6 others injured there. storm spotters reported scoured earth along tornado s track in area. throughout state, 20 people treated injuries, while many others sustained minor injuries.

during evening , overnight hours of may 19, tornadic activity became more sparse, few tornadoes reported in iowa, illinois, , missouri. @ least 2 tornadoes confirmed in iowa, 1 near huxley , near earlham. touchdowns in iowa marked end of 358‑day span no tornadoes in state.

on afternoon of may 20, large, violent tornado touched down west of newcastle, oklahoma , impacted town of moore, causing severe damage residential areas plaza towers , briarwood elementary schools. oklahoma office of chief medical examiner confirmed 24 fatalities, 7 of schoolchildren @ plaza towers elementary. after being preliminarily rated high-end ef4, increased, , tornado given final rating of ef5. tornado followed path similar of f5 tornado hit area on may 3, 1999. tornado became first ef5 tornado in 2 years.

on may 21, ef2 tornado touched down near small community of glenarm, ontario 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) west of fenelon falls, , environment canada confirmed roof of home torn off tornado , barn destroyed. no injuries reported in storm. ontario s second tornado of 2013 season.

may 26–31

a large, slow moving system produced 86 tornadoes across great plains in last week of may. many tornadoes, strong violent, touched down across kansas , nebraska 27th through 29th, weaker tornadoes recorded in other states. 1 of notable tornadoes of outbreak 2.6 miles (4.2 km) wide wedge tornado struck near el reno, oklahoma on evening of may 31. widest tornado ever recorded. tornado rated ef5, estimated winds being measured @ >295 miles per hour (475 km/h) mobile doppler radar; however, worst damage rated ef3, on august 30, 2013, tornado s rating downgraded ef3. 8 deaths attributed tornado including 4 storm chasers; twistex project leader tim samaras, son paul, fellow chaser carl young, , amateur storm chaser richard charles henderson. same evening, large ef3 tornado moved through several st. louis suburbs, resulting in major damage , 2 injuries. in total, outbreak resulted in 93 tornadoes.

on may 3, tornado struck several villages in tarlac in philippines, damaging or destroying @ least 101 houses , affecting on 400 people. on may 11, tornado struck kiziltepe, turkey, killing 1 person. tornado impacted turkey 3 days later, touching down in mersin province. 2 people killed , 19 others injured when storm struck local airport. on may 22, f2 tornado struck town of yefremov, russia, damaging 200 homes , leaving 100 million rubles (us$31.9 million) in losses. f1 tornado struck industrial area of cavenago, italy 9.3 mi (15.0 km) north milan on may 29. @ least 2 people injured , many buildings damaged or destroyed.
